During the Second Republic of Georgia, the issue of borders lost its significance at the state level. At that stage, the state borders between the republics were deliberately erased, reflected in the abolition of customs, pickets, and other technical
forms. “Based on Soviet power, it does not matter for national independence where this or that border ends... The question of borders can be resolved differently at different times depending on the real population or existing economic circumstances,” (“Socialist-Federalist” paper, 1921), “We will not accept natural borders that cause war,” they declared. They resolved the issue of borders with poorly understood “international” slogans. The Georgian communists resolved the issue of the border between the Soviet republics of Transcaucasia from the point of view of “proletarian internationalism”. They ceded a significant part of the historical territories of Georgia to neighboring states”.
