THE OLDEST SENSER WITH INSCRIFTIONS FROM THE SVETITSKHOVELI CATHEDRAL

Abstract

The purpose of this article is to present one of the oldest inscribed censers from Svetitskhovli Cathedral to the general readership. In particular, the article includes the inscription of the Catholicos of Kartli, Eusuki (887-908), on the censer and information about it.
Based on historical sources, it is clear that the censer with inscriptions was made at the turn of the 9th-10th centuries by the order of the Catholicos of Kartli, Eusuki, and was donated by him to the Svetitskhovli Cathedral of Mtskheti.
The article also describes the biblical stories imprinted on the crucifix.
