In the archive of the National Academy of Sciences of Georgia there is preserved very interesting material about Shota Rustaveli and the museum of his era, which was opened on January 3, 1937 and operated until April 1, 1941. The decision of the Council of People’s Commissars of the Georgian SSR to establish a museum in connection with the 750th anniversary of the origination of Shota Rustaveli’ poem “Knight in Panther’s Skin” was made in 1936. The famous Georgian historian and public figure Ivane Javakhishvili was appointed to the position of acting director of the museum. The purpose of the museum was the XI-XIII centuries. We offer the reader archival material, in particular several contracts (a total of 70 contracts were signed), which reflect the preparatory work for holding the museum exhibition, as well as the further destiny of the extremely important fund collected in the museum.
